At first it sounds like new age nonsense.
On second thoughts it seems plausible.
On the third glance, it makes perfect sense with science!
‘Grounding’ or ‘Earthing’ has been around for millennia and for a good reason. For instance the Native American people for generations kept walking barefoot in their custom for the perceived health benefits.
So what does earthing yourself actually mean?
Earthing (or grounding) refers to the discovery of benefits—including better sleep and reduced pain—from walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems that transfer the Earth’s electrons from the ground into the body. From eradicating the ‘charge’ you build up during the day with all the electronic exposure to the negative electrons that you obtain from the earth itself, this has already helped many people.
It has also been one of the main explanations on why we feel great walking barefoot on the beach or on grass in a forest.
There are various studies being done on this ancient therapy and here’s one on infants:
Here’s a great video by Clint Ober, the man who popularised the idea:
It’s helped me with reducing stress, pain and better sleep for years now. My tips on where to start:
1. Get 5 minutes of walking outside barefoot per day, either in the morning or on your lunch break. Build from there as the more the better!
2. Think about getting an earthing mat for work so you can be earthed while working at a desk.
3. Whenever you go to an area like a park, take your shoes off and spend some time connected to the earth, your body will thank you for it!
Here’s to reducing inflammation,
